Eyewash & safety showers
✓
DO
Hold eyelids open
Roll the eyes so water reaches everywhere.
Step 3 / 6VOICE · ON
IN ONE LINE
Flush exposed eyes and skin for a full 15 minutes — and know where the station is before you need it.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Locate and reach a safety station within seconds.
Use eyewash and shower correctly for 15 minutes.
Understand why weekly testing matters.
READ THE LESSON
Seconds count, so does distance
ANSI Z358.1 puts emergency stations within a 10-second walk of the hazard, on the same level and free of obstructions. You should be able to reach yours with your eyes shut.
Fifteen minutes, no shortcuts
Tepid water for a full 15 minutes dilutes and removes the chemical even after the sting fades. Stopping early lets residual chemical keep damaging tissue.
Stagnant water is a hazard too
Water sitting in the supply line grows bacteria. A weekly activation flushes the line so that, when you need it, the water is clean.
15 minutes
Time it. The natural urge is to stop after one or two — fight it and flush the full quarter hour.
